Rating : - Almost Perfect! (for the iPhone) I gave this a 5 star rating since the issues I have with the lamp I believe are related to the use of the iPhone. The product literature does not claim this is compatible with the iPhone.
I purchased this lamp today from Best Buy. I have an iPhone 3G and was looking for something that could replace my lamp on my night stand, my alarm clock, charge my iPhone and it needed an aux OUT so I could plug in my headphones and leave them plugged in. This fits the bill!
The good:
It's obviously a desk lamp.
The alarm clock on my iPhone sounds through the lamps built in speakers even with the headphones plugged in (important since you don't have to worry about unplugging the headphones to hear your alarm in the morning).
Charges the iPhone.
The headphone volume is controlled by the lamps volume control which is nice.
No brick to plug in.
Solid base. No sliding around.
The bad:
At low volume there is a very slight buzz through the headphones. It is not noticeable (to me) when music is playing however. At higher volumes it is not an issue.
Sound through the built in speakers is Ho-Hum. Not an issue for me. The alarm sounds fine through them.
No time display. I wish there was a setting on the iPhone that would allow continuous display of the time only when plugged in. Barring that a time display on the lamp would be nice.
My biggest gripe: iPhone asks to be in "Airplane Mode" when you plug it in. After about 10 seconds the message clears itself. Listening to a couple of songs I didn't notice any issues with leaving the phone on. Time will tell if this is a problem or not but so far so good.
Overall this is a keeper for me. For 49.00 I'll hang on to this until someone makes one of these for the iPhone 3G. This one item has really cleared a lot of space off my bedside night stand!
