A synthetic suede palm and fingers helps you keep your grip. I'm a semi-pro photographer with an emphasis on nature photography. Since I spend a lot of time hiking, I've been looking for some stretch gloves that would keep my hands warm in cold weather, but allow me to manipulate the controls on my DSLR camera. I looked at other gloves where all the fingers can be exposed, but I really only needed my thumb and forefinger to take photos. I came very near to buying some gloves and cutting off the thumb and forefinger when I came across these: They fit the bill well! Inexpensive, fairly nicely made, and the ability to pull the thumb and forefinger back when needed. What's nice my other fingers are still covered, but I can still hold my camera (which can get cold and hard to hold). My only nit is that the clip that keeps the gloves together when not in use are made of plastic and will likely break in time (a stainless steel clip would've been better), and the stitching around the thumb and forefingers could've been a little better, but I don't think that will be an issue. All in all, pretty much what I was looking for!
